I’m going to be a bit cliché and write a post about my year; purely for the fact it’ll be here for me to look back on but if you fancy a read then get some snacks, I think it’s going to be a long one. If I had to sum up my year in one word it would be memorable.
I’ve done a lot of self-repair this year. I entered the New Year having recently started taking anti-depressants, I was dealing with some issues and didn’t have much sense of self in all this. I was very reliant of a certain few people and didn’t know how to be me without them. So when things changed and they were no longer a part of my life I became quite unwell.
The first few months were really tough and in all honesty thinking back to this time it’s all a bit of a blur to me now. But there are a few things that were really incredible and helped me look forward. So I’m done discussing the negatives…
In January I went to Paris with my best friend, we had the most amazing time. We stayed in a beautiful hotel, made the most of room service, did all the sightseeing humanly possible and made some memories I’ll keep forever. I wrote a blog post about my trip, which you can read HERE.
In February I got a promotion at work which has allowed me to gain and expand on many skills which I will take with me in the next steps of my career. I’ve gained such valuable experience this year and a excited to see where my career will go in 2018. I spent a lot of time in February building myself and learning how to be by myself again. I managed to really turn a corner.
In March I spent lots of time with my friends and family and gave myself more time for me. My love for brunch grew bigger than ever before and I made sure I tried and tested as many of the local hot spots as possible!
In April I turned 20. I was surprised how much of a big deal I found this to be as I’ve never really been bothered by age, but 20 just seemed like a massive jump. Now 8 months on; I don’t know what I was freaking out about it’s no different to being 19. I had the best birthday cake I think I’ve ever had. I also found my love for photography around this time in the year. I watched and supported my now boyfriend, Harvey, run BOTH the Brighton and London marathon’s for charity – I’ve never felt so much pride for someone I love.
In May I started my blog – this is probably my biggest achievement and something I’m very proud of. I absolutely love writing about things that interest me, products I’m loving, outfits I’ve been wearing, places I’ve been and so much more. I had wanted to do this for such a long time, I’m really glad I made the decision to go for it. I’m not focused on numbers and growth, it’s just a hobby that I’m very passionate about. I took another leap of faith and decided to make the best person that had happened to me in the last 12 months my boyfriend. He’s a gem, it was definitely the best leap I’ve ever taken! May was one of the best months for me.
June, July and August ; I put all my efforts into my blog and writing and shooting posts. I became much more confident both in front and behind the camera. I enjoyed the the summer months where you have hours and hours of day light and appropriate weather to shoot outfits! Something you don’t see much of in the winter!
Harvey and I also went on a long weekend break to Cambridge in August; we stayed in the most incredible 5 star hotel which we completely fell in love with. Everything at The Tamburlaine from the interior design to the mini pastries on offer at breakfast were to die for. I would absolutely LOVE to pay another visit in 2018. On this trip I also took Harvey to meet some of my family who live in Cambridge, he’s definitely a well integrated member of my family now. I’m pretty sure some of my Aunties and Uncles love him more than they do me! To see more of our stay at The Tamburlaine head over to my Instagram – HERE.
In September I went on holiday with my mum and dad, something I hadn’t done for at least 4 years. We went to Fertuventua, somewhere we went a couple of times when I was young. It was so nice to spend some time with my parents and relax together (AND finally get some kind of a tan). I also used this time away to work hard on my instagram and blog and loved the content I was able to create whilst abroad. I’m excited to go away again with my parents in 2018, even more so with the addition of Harvey.
In October I fully embraced the autumnal season, I enjoyed many cosy nights in and auntumn walks. Harvey and I spent a weekend in London, we stayed in the Leman Locke Aparthotel; visited the Duck and Waffle for the most incredible brunch and did a whistle stop tour of London. This was one of my favourite weekends together.
Now November… I hit full Christmas mode and started shopping and planning for the big day. I organised my work’s Christmas party, spent HOURS wrapping presents and listened to nothing but Christmas songs from the 1st November onwards.
December feels like it has just vanished; last time I checked it was the 3rd??! December is my absolute, all time, favourite month of the whole entire year and I’m always so excited for everything it entails, then devastated when all the festivities are over and the tree’s/lights come down and the world heads back to reality. This Christmas was one of the best I’ve ever had; I spent it with my boyfriends family where we also celebrated his dad’s 50th Birthday. We ate our own body weight in delicious foods, drank prosecco all day and played games until midnight. It reminded me how truly lucky I am to be surrounded by such incredible family and friends who love and support me.
So there’s been a lot of change over the last 12 months and I’m so grateful to be going into a new year feeling positive and refreshed, ready to face whatever comes my way and make my goals become a reality.
They’ll be a blog post up on New Year’s Day about my goals and aspirations for the year ahead so don’t forget to pop back for that! A massive thank you for reading my blog and supporting me on this new venture. To see what I get up to daily head to my instagram for timely updates via my instagram stories and to see new posts on the grid – @emily_hutton.
I hope you all had an amazing year, here’s to making the next one even bigger and better.
Lots of Love
