Confidence; The feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.
There are so many things in today’s world that can cause us to lack confidence; in our own body and self image, in our own abilities and in our decisions.
For me, the area I lack the most confidence in is my self-image – I can say with 100% certainty that right now I’m now the happiest I’ve been with my body. But yes, I’ve been slimmer and more toned than I am today, I’ve been more tanned, less lumpy and bumpy and felt fitter. But I’m happier within myself, which is more important to me. I remind myself to be kind to me; we’re everyone else’s biggest cheerleader and our own worst critique.
I have learnt that if I’m happy with my body and feel comfortable and confident then that’s the only opinion I need to consider, rather than succumb to the pressures around me.
For both men and women body image is a huge taboo – a certain type of ‘perfect’ body is fed to us through TV, films, magazines, social media and other people. It can be exhausting. But, I think that now more than ever it’s being spoken about in the right way, people are embracing their body and building each other’s confidence instead of knocking each other down.
Big brands are acknowledging what the real ‘average’ woman looks like and portraying this in their advertising instead of the super-model like figure we’re all far to familiar with – PLEASE don’t get me wrong they are absolutely gorgeous, but so is the average size woman, a much more realistic image to aspire to.
Whatever your body shape and size, be confident and embrace it.
I also believe it’s important to be confident and believe in our own abilities, one of the best things about the human race is that everyone has different strengths and skills; whatever yours might be OWN IT. Sometimes if we’re going to do something outside of our comfort zone the most important thing is to fake it till you make it – act like you’re confident and the whole room will believe that you are!
I think the message I’m trying to convey here is that it’s important to be confident in yourself, build yourself up and don’t be afraid to love yourself. I know that’s harder said than done sometimes!
